After a long Hyadus (think that's how you spells it) I have tried a new beer! Smithwicks Irish Red from our friends at the Guiness Corp. Going from it's origins and my previous knowledge and experiance with Irish brews I was expecting another thick dark concoction, but was supprised to see that it looked pretty much like Killians, then it sank in "Irish red.....ohh yeah" The similarity with Kilians ended about there at appearance. This brew tasted 100x better, being a good example of what an Irish red is supposed to be like. I want to discribe it as being like a beer equivalent to Ginger Ale, not that they tasted alike, but more in then Smithy had that crish refreshing quality to it like ginger ale. It was a joy to drink with that crisp but suttle taste. It felt like something I could drink all night. 5 out 5

I hit the pubs last night and enjoyed some fine brews. I started out with another Smithwicks, but this time it was in a big boys glass, and I was still extremely pleased with the results. Next we hit the flying saucer. (I wish there was one of these in Savannah!) Here I had a local heffe by the name of Yazoo and let me tell ya it was the best heffe i've had in a while. I had some pitchers of Shiner Heffe at another bar previous to this outing and it tasted a little bland. But then I never really thought that Shiner's was that great to begin with. I do like their logo though. Back to beer, Yazoo's was very crisp and fresh and had a rather heavier body then other heffes I remeber having. It went great with the lemon and definatly had that "there is a party in my mouth" quality to it. I also decided to have a Young's double chocolate stout from merry ol' england. This one was also a very enjoyable experiance with a mild, relaxing, semi-bitter dark chocolate flavor to it. It was a good closer for the evening. The best part was it was pint nite so the three beers with tip cost me less then some places would charge for a pint of medium price import and a pbr. If either of these beers sound like something you would like and you come across them I say don't miss out, I know I sure won't.

I took a trip to the ABC store with a friend last week and thought I would try something new- I am one who does not visit such establishment often and was very impressed with all the types of drinks available ( I know- very lame, alas I am not much of a drinker). I bought a small bottle of coviouser(sp?)Cognac and some absolut Vanilla- I liked the absolut- hate the cognac. Ick..... to think I was getting the nerve to try the everclear... think that maybe a mistake. I am sticking to the "girly" Smirnoff Ice type drinks until my bravery comes back.

Was out celebrating last night and learned a few things about those innocent looking bottles of wine... if I have a couple of glasses, I feel happy and chatty and that's it. Have more than that and you feel buzzed, until a delayed time after consuming those extra glasses of wine, WAM! Like a mack truck it hits you and you are hammered. That happened to me yesterday... I had a few glasses and felt pretty good, then I sat down and apparently after that all hell broke loose, involving me being an embarassment, some nice things getting damaged, and apparently me getting physically picked up and placed in bed. I had no intention of getting like that and feel like a dumbass, but I have a lot of gratitude for my friend that I stayed with, for his kindness and the fact he doesn't hold a grudge. Wine isn't as innocent as it seems, I tell ya - one bottle kicked my ass thoroughly. I woke up feeling fine though - no lingering effects. So there you have it, reporting from the field. This is Spook signing off for "I'm an Idiot News".

Last weekend while in Columbia eating mexican I indulged in some Dos Equis. It was a pleasent experiance, though I still live by Modeo Negra is in mexican foodficating places. Generally the two beers have similar weight and body though the Negra has a great aftertaste that the Dos E lacks. But for some good thirst quenching how can you beat a 32 oz mug for 3 bucks and some change.

While oversees recently I laid a question in my brain to rest. Long ago in a far away place our old friend Legion had said that chinese beer is nasty. Well I have found one that was superb. Unfortunitly I should have checked the spelling on the name before beggining this message. The china native is based on the brewing techniques of Germany and it shows. It is a light brown lager with a light to medium body and no strong flavor, but a general pleasant beer taste. It usually comes in the 'ugly bottle" like Red Stripe. I also tried to varieties of Asahi beer from Japan. One the "fine taste" variety, the other "super dry" I belive that the dry is supposed to be the finer brew, but I liked the "fine taste" version better. The dry had an odd aftertaste that I could not put my finger on, while the "fine taste" tasted much more pleasant with the same general beer taste that I liked about Sapporo. Lastly I tried Tiger, from Singapor but brewed in Shanghai China. This was a slighly nutty brew similar in taste and general characteristics to Newcastle, however Tiger was a much lighter color, a light golden brown, sort of the stereotypical beer color.

Even though I am almost the sole visitor/contributer to this thread I have another review. Lawson Creek Honey Wheat, US. I had previously tried a vanilla stout from these guys and was pleased with the taste that this rather cheap (less then a buck a bottle) and available (grocerry store down the street) brew offered. As you all know I really like wheat and honey beer, so what would be better then a combination of the two? I was supprised by the flavor of Lawson's I was expecting a more wheaty texture to a honey brown. Instead I got a full honey taste and texture with the more organic feel of a wheat beer. I had the thick slightly silky feel that honey has, but at the same time was quite light in color. After drinking one I decided that it's probably not going to be a regular in my book but I'm sure I will buy it again when i want something a little different and not wishing to drive to southside Savannah. It makes me wonder what it's like to have Scandinavian honey mead.

I had a Sherly Temple the otherday, I have never been so drunk! I was at a party with Hans Solo, and Luke, and my best friend JarJar we drank so much, even my mom had to come down to the basement to tell us we were being to loud. We watched the Princesss Laja Sex-Slave scene in Star Wars VI so many times!

This is a bit late- but we went out for my birthday to Kabuto and had something called a "Blue Buddha"- basicly a "Blue Hawaiian". Here is the recipe if anyone cares to try it: Blue Hawaiian * 1 oz Light Rum * 1 oz Blue Curacao * 2 oz Pineapple Juice * 1 oz Cream of Coconut * 1 cup Crushed Ice Combine all ingredients in blender at high speed. Pour into a glass and top with a slice of pineapple and a cherry. Enjoy

if Frankenstein's monster gulped down some Blanche De Chambly it would probably result in the meeeehhhhhhh meeehhhhhh and the hand waving back and fourth horizontally ultimately causing the townsfolk to gather into an angry mob and yadda yadda yadda. Hoegaarden however has made its way to the top of my mainstays, it's s'dang tays-teh, also tays-teh, i find, is t3h in heat wheat by t3h flying dog, who i understand makes good everything(?). 3 left to go all don't remembe what they is be tho, heh heh heh. Guess since the Effen Heffer is still residing @ t3h folks home, i'm dealing with a heffer withdrawl . . . that and hefes r tays-teh

I had a Shiner Hefe' after a few Hoegaardens this evening after watching Carolina giftwrap the win for Clemson with a bright pansy red bow . . . any way i found the Shiner hefe' to be on the arse end of so so; i found it bore a certain bitterness that i found to be most unpleasant BLAW indeed.

I didn't experiance that with the Shiner heffe, what did you eat before it? Either way I agree that Hoegaarens is the better brew, have you tried Franzikaner? Over the previous week, at some point I no longer remember when I tried a brew from Tommyknocker Brewery of Colorado. It was part of a 12 pack variety. The Maple Nut Brown Ale is very similar in taste to Newcastle or Modello Negra. It is slightly sweet, I was suprised about how mellow the sweetness was considering it has Maple Syrup in it. The maple comes to play towards the end as a lingering light aftertaste and on the aroma of the liquid. It was a good brew, but I was expecting something a little more unique.
