;D To create a thread less depressing than my other two threads tonight, anyone interested in a fun romp of B-Movie discussion? I adore them and hope there's more of us B-movie crackheads out there!

There's only one of those movies I can think of and that's 'Attack Of The Killer Bees" and to be honest, I didn't think much of it and have avoided B-Movies ever since.

Question: White Zombie - the 1933 Bela Lugosi version? That's one of my favourites of all time, but I adore most 30's horror flicks. Hmmmmmmm..... favourites... The Serpent and the Rainbow (old-skool Wes Craven before people knew who he was), City of the Walking Dead, Dawn of the Dead (original Romero), the Evil Dead trilogy, Prison, Almost ANY monster movie, as long as you get to see the monster in ample amounts (brownie pointes for seeing the sneakers poke out of the costume's feet or if the head jostles), Godzilla (and other such rubber suit monsters), The Brain That Wouldn't Die, to name a few off of the top of my head....

No, my opinions of B movies were not stained by one piece of schlock, it's just that once a person has seen Robert Downey Sr.'s "Greaser's Palace" a few times it becomes a standard by which all B movies are judged by.

I tend to disagree...it dosent take "Greasers Palace" to churn your stomach..just try n subject yourself to Hollywoods "A" list schlock time after time and you become quite appreciative of "B" movies...I just finished watching "THE RESIDENTS" "ESKIMO"dvd and it gave me a greater appreciation for "alternative film"..besides "B" movies are like reading trashy horror comics and serial killer biographies and listening to punk rock and garage bands and alternative music...IF IT OFFENDS THE MAINSTREAM then ITS ACCOMPLISHED ITS GOAL!!! More B for me PLEASE !!! If it was up to me Hollywoods Craparama feature films featuring assholes with pretty faces and big boobed dim bulbs would be rated "B" for BULLSHIT and BORING...pandering to the herds ...REAL "B" movies actually have a sense of artistic and innovative license...they dont expect HUGH profits from a film just because some flavor of the minute ASSHOLE is in it..they do it because they want to express an idea, thought or just plain sadistic twist of the knife in the mainstreams ribs!!

That was beautiful man, I couldn't have said it better myself (mainly because I recieved an INT roll of 7 during my creation but that's besides the point). It's one thing when a director is provided with a huge budget to make a movie and something completely diffreent when one is given not so much to work with, and I can relate. I myself and a bit of a artist/craftsman and have been so for years and I can speak from experience, that you really can appreciate a finished creation in which you have had limited resources and had to muster up every ounce of nerve and sinew to create rather than be provided with all kinds of fancy tools and to then create a product easily without a great deal of effort; you tend to see more value in art of any kind whether it be movie, craft or whatever kind of work it is that is being done. I guesss what I'm trying to say is that the more ones media is limited the more they tend to pull from resources that lie within their own creativity and that sets the artists apart from those just out to make a buck.

Watched The Gates of Hell shortly before I moved - very entertaining! It's a good sign when the cover is printed with the warning that "This film contains scenes which may be considered shocking. No one under 17 should be present." An 1983 Italian escapade of gore (who else pulls a gore-fest off so nicely?) brought to us by Michael Franzese, the effects aren't much by today's standards, but I have to give this film props for its creativity. There's the occaional zombie-type with a fixation for squishing the back of people's heads, a guy that gets massively drilled in the head, and a chick that vomits her entire gastro-intestinal track slowly, and in recognizable order of the organs.
In films like this, the plot matters little, but for those looking for one, there is some semblance of a plot, I suppose.. something about a priest that hangs himself in a cemetary in a town that happens to be where Salem of witch-trial fame used to be (uhm... I thought Salem still existed today? But anyhoos...). This causes a countdown to the Gates of Hell opening, and a small band of strangers (including a chick that died, was buried, and came back to life) must come together to keep the Gates closed. They don't show any gates or anything, but the ride's entertaining and imaginitive, and very messy at times.

Well, last night I viewed a rather interesting B-movie, Prophesy. It's about this scientist dood who comes to investivate whats going on with all these killings going on in these woods where native americans are somewhere . . . anyway, it's one of those movies that you can take half way seriously until these random campers doing camper things in the woods (even though they really don't have anything to do with the plot really) and the big monster thing that comes from these people at this paper mill putting murcury something or other in their lumber pools to prevent algae from forming, well anyway it makes things mutate during fetal stages thus the monster, so back to what I was saying about taking the movie seriously until these campers are all sleeping and the monster comes along and attacks the campers and this one kid in a coffin sleeping bag jumps up and tries to hop away while still encased within his sleeping bag and gets knocked up against some big rocks while in mid hop and upon hitting the rocks explodes in a cloud of down feathers, long story short really rediculous but funny to be sure. Sadly I'd have to say that was the high point of the movie even though it had little to nothing to do with the plot . . . ahhhhh gratuitous unrealistic comical violence.

Not for the faint of heart by any means, but I wholly and lovingly suggest any films by Jorg Buttgereit, especially Nekromantik 1 and 2, Schramm, and Der Todes King. The man is a genius. Also, check out Eraserhead.
