I'm starting this as an all-purpose Final Fantasy thread.
I'll start it off with this:
Has anyone played through Final Fantasy X-2? I got it for cheap a while back and barely got through the teeny-bopper intro. Is it worth going through? I liked the combat system, since it was new compared to others in the series, and I like the 3 character only party for simplicity(do you get more characters?).
I want to play it just to see where the story goes, but I can skip the side stuff if the game isn't that great.

Oh, here's another one. Should Final Fantasy XI have been called that? Its all online, so it seems like a really different game, and because its online I'll probably never play, because that's too much like being sociable. I think it should have had a different name, like what they did with Tactics.

All the people I see dressing up as characters from it are all teeny boppers though, so I don't think that feeling of the game will go away.

Because of it being online, I will never play it since I think online games are worse than crack and I don't want to touch those with a 39 and a half foot pole. I know I'm not the only one that feels that way, so they lost a chunk of demographic when they made that releasing decision.

I have a slim PS2 and I can't play it anyways because you can't use the hard drive with it. I don't like online games either. I play video games specifically because it involves no interaction with people.

SHUT UP!!11!ONES!!!2111 Well, I'm giving FFX-2 a go since its the closest I'll get to playing a FFXI. And so far, its been surprisingly good. The initial opening sequence is very cringe-worthy, especially for a 150% heterosexual, Metallica loving, gun loving, commie hating, Toby Keith-reciting, macho-non-french manly man such as myself(did I mention I'm not gay? Cuz I ain't). Beyond that its not as teeny-bopperish as I thought it might be. I really like the combat system, its the fastest and most action oriented of any FF game I've played. The story seems to be really open and non-linear, which is a nice change from FFX. There have been some neat mini-games, but it seems like there are too many of them, but its not like I have to play them. All the locations are straight from FFX, so that's nothing new, but the music so far has been all new. So I've put like 6 hours into it, let's see if its still good at 16.

i never played ffVI simply because you have to buy the hard drive to play it and that's the only use for it so i've never played it. i think my favorite FF game was either 7 or 9. i've played some more recent ones and i've played a little bit of shadow hearts which is very similar because of the fighting system. the turn taking thing is fun but i've kinda turned over now to real time battle games where you can move around, defend and counterstrike as well as attack in games like Jade Empire, God of War etc.. but the FF franchise is one of if not the greatest line of games ever put out as a whole i think.

FF is definately the greatest video game series. Every aspect of the games are far beyond other games, from music to artwork to being relatively glitch free. I am kind of worried about the scattered approach being taken with the games lately, with FFVII spinoffs and FF"XI". But still, a bad FF game is usually better than most other games.
After putting in aound 10 hours into FFX-2, I can say its definately worth playing if you like FF. If you like the ability system in FFIX, you'll love this one. The number of mini-games is reaching FFVII absurdness, but you don't have to play them. And its the first FF game I know of with people using Yiddish words and speaking in a Canadian accent. This is a line I saw last night: "What's all the fuss aboot? Keep it simple, eh."

I'm not sure why I haven't posted this yet, but I finished FFX-2 a while ago. Cheesie moments aside, it was an excellent FF game. There were two songs during the game that almost caused me to hang myself when I heard them, but that was about the worst of it.
The combat and job system is excellent, and is one of my favorites in all the FF series. Its great being able to switch jobs in the middle of a battle, and I really liked how I could have a party of 3 fighters, or 3 mages, or whatever at any time I chose.
Now that that's over with...

I gave in and got FFXII at its full price. And its worth every dollar. Graphically its the most beautiful of any FF. The CG movies are better than some things I've seen in movies(cinema that is).
The combat system is completely different, and it might not be for everyone, but I can't get enough of it. There's no transistion between the world map and battles; everthing is real time. There are also "gambits," which let you program how your characters will act in battle. It seems like cheating at first, but it eliminates some of the tedium with lesser enemies, so you're not just selecting "Fight" every time. During the boss battles you definately have to take a more active role.
One thing I wish they would change is the effeminate, whiny lead character. Its another Tidus/Zidane/Squall/Cloud type, and by now I think they could come up with something different. Although during combat you're able to use any of your characters as the leader. It just still seems like he's a weird version of what the Japanese think a stereotypical American male is like.
