I think this year, I'm going as Armitage. I have quite a shopping list, but nothing too hard or too expensive. I may need help formulating a weapon, but I am not yet sure. As I start work on the costume, I'll prolly post details here, but not too many since I want a good costume that's not ripped off by idea-thieves. I will say this though - there's been a lot of crappy versions of Armitage that I've seen so far. I think I have a fair shot at taking this a step higher. There's a few details in particular I have yet to see anyone bother with yet, so I know I'll have a creative advantage here.
The biggest help will be if anyone could be on the look-out for an eighties-style red jacket with the velco-tab collar, that would be useful. Browse the web to see what I'm getting at. I'm planning on hitting the thrift shops for this - they're usually a treasure trove of eighties gear. Also will need the big square 80's style wrap around sunglasses. This is crucial to one of my "above-and-beyond" ideas. Ideally, they need to by big enough I could wear my regular glasses underneath since I'm so blind.
Otherwise, here's a sampling of my shopping list: Red bra with removable straps snap-buttons black thigh-highs + garters red electric tape buckles red ribbon various permanent art markers cheap thin black belt, easily cut select paints red shorts
Overall, I'm really excited about AZ. Sucosa's going - I think even staying in the same hotel as me and Uncle Jager. Beefy may be going also? Anyone else? I hope we get this thread going - it would be interesting to keep up with one another as we prepare for this thing. What are you gonna be (heavy details not needed, I didn't give much above)? Maybe we can help eachother with some things. Need food/ride/advice/booze/ whatever? Maybe we can hook each other up.

I loved Armitage III. Something about killing robot country singers that just... gives a nice warm feeling in my heart... ;D
I'm not a fan of incest... er I mean country music...

yeah, i'll be a goin' teh dis 'ere annie maze mint yaharrrr. I'ma gonna go as somethin too, a red mage . . . a real red mage not like one of those sacreligious travesties from FFXI! ifigure this'll be a fine opportunity to do so as it's something i've always wnated to do, sure i could go as on on halloween but who would get it everyone would just think i'm some pimp dressed in red with a good looking hat. Speaking of hats if'n any of ye be knowin like the4 grand master hat baron of the world or something close to that please lemme know, i';m kinda having trouble finding the hat i require. i found this www.sillyjokes.co.uk/images/dress-up/acc/hats/musketeer-red-big.jpgbut it's not quite what i'm looking for or rather i think i can find better. I would makethe hat save for the fact that i'[m vhad less than good luck in creating headgear of any kind in the past. I'm gonna see what ican get away with not making tho i'm sure i'll have to create my own cloak amy friend hasd a swordmans shirt that i'll see if i can't commandeer aaaand that's about as far as i've got . . . guess i've got my work cut out for me. It's kinda hard to de3cide what kind of pklatform to follow, the oricinal sprite doesn't have enough etail to follow and all the fan art is doubleplusNOTwhatiwanttofolow So eny hands any can extend to aide in my li'le quest 'ere, as for me i'm gonna get crackin

I will be at the Animaizement too- Unfortunately I am still sans costume- I like too many anime shows to decide. We are working all the painting and logistics for Josh's costume yet. But I am sure we will get everything done in time. Anyone in the Greensboro, High point, Or Winston Salem area want to ride with me to durham Friday- the 27th? I cannot get off work early( I tried every trick in the book) and I usually work until 8 - I hate riding by myself. If anyone is interested let me know. If I still lived in the area, I'd ride with you. Maybe you could put up a flyer in the comic shops up there? There's definitely an anime fan base at the Collection Connection on Randleman Rd, near.. what is that road... Rehobeth Church Rd, or whatever road perpendics R. Church Rd. It's a little bit further down from the Vandalia Rd Intersection. Oh, and that first road I'm thinking of - 85 intersects it, so its easy to get to. Dunno about Acme comics on Spring Garden, or that one way down Market as you head towards Battleground Ave. That's about the best my memory takes me. I've officially bought the first piece of my costume! w00t! I spent a whole dollar on a belt I'm cutting down into a wide choker. I saw some promising red shorts but they weren't bright enough, and saw some jeans that were perfect to cut into shorts, but the waist was too small for me and I didn't see how I could let it out a bit. If I were wearing an actual shirt with it, but considering how much less than that I'll be wearing up top, I'd look like such a lard ass ;D Nowhere near as bad as Miroku the Hutt from last year though ;D ;D If anyone still finds the 80's squared off wrap around shades, lemme know! I'll reimburse you. Ditto for the jacket, but that's not as crucial because it will cover one of my Very Important Advantageous Great Accoutrements (tm), or VIAGRA for short. The shades are key to another one of the VIAGRA as well. MUST find the shades. Anyone know a good way to stain a patch of skin pink easily and nontoxically? I don't mind if I have to touch it up once each day - I just need to color larger sections of flesh and don't want to spend an hour at a time redoing it with marker multiple times a day.

Have you tried Hipwazee on Harden St? I got my wig there last year (and a nice wig it is, too) and they carry a wide selection of cool hats and other gear. They may even have my shades and jacket there, but beware, they are not always thrifty in price......

Also have a question for Sucosa: Jager finally found some jeans I can turn into the right shorts I need ($2!!). I'm comfortable enough with the hemming and stuff, but I have to sew the crotch area higher - it's much too loose on me to look right. (A middle-age Armitage just isn't quite as fetching...) Does Josh have any advice for that task? I was just going to cut open the current seam, trim the extra little corner of fabric so the line would be continuous and come out higher along, and sew it back together, ending at a higher point on the inseam. Is that the right way to go about it? Present Costometer: $3

I was just going to cut open the current seam, trim the extra little corner of fabric so the line would be continuous and come out higher along, and sew it back together, ending at a higher point on the inseam. Is that the right way to go about it? Present Costometer: $3 I went ahead and took the plunge on working on the shorts.... surprisingly, this is working out well! I let out the inseam and the intersection at the top of the inseam where the four pieces of denim meet. I've got it pinned the way it needs to be resewn and also pinned at the height I want to hem the legs at now that I've cut the legs off to a more shorts-like length. Armitage wears them pretty short, so I've got them as high as I'm comfortable with - I'm not the type that enjoys falling out of my clothes I also figured out how I want to do the back of the shorts since they're two colours and two different materials. I took off the original pockets, used the excess red denim material to cut two sections that will create new functional pockets for myself, and cut two pieces of the black fabric I had sitting around to the size and shape I need - it works perfectly - light and kind of ribbed, like in the pictures! I have to hem the edges of these four pieces so they don't fray or unravel, and then I can put them on, like red-black-red sandwiches sort of. I can't do any more today because I don't have any more pins (had enough to pin the new inseam <what miniscule amount there will be> and one leg) to pin the other leg, and I need to go to Michaels to get red and black thread so the stitching doesn't stand out a mile away. I'm surprised at how smoothly this is going, cutting and pinning away, and marking the fabric patterns and layouts in some chalk I have here so I can see what I am doing. I've never sewn a costume before, much less actually altered any clothing to this degree, except a disasterous attempt at flaring the legs of some jeans back in college.... good idea it was, but horrible execution... I'm hoping to start an accoutn at cosplaylab.com - they have a lot of photos of people's costumes. Good costumes are a minority it seems, but there are many many many lessons of what not to do here, if you need ideas on how to make your costumes really stand out. I'll post last year's Count D costume and set up a thing for this year's Armitage costume. It seems this thread is becoming a journal for me as I work on this thing - I hope some of you guys will join in, too. It would be really spiffy if it developed into a working journal for all of us that is going. I would love to know how everyone else is doing and going about their costumes. Josh - you need an account here!!!!!!! I wanna know how your costume is going!! So far: Costometer: $3 Timeometer: 4 hrs
